Traveling by plane

The closest international airports ranked based on their ease of reach are:

  1. Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG)
  2. Luxembourg Airport (LUX)
  3. Strasbourg Airport (SXB)
  4. Paris Orly (ORY)

1. From CDG to Nancy: 2 options.

A) High-speed train (TGV) from CDG to Lorraine TGV (~1h20min), then shuttle from Lorraine TGV to Nancy (35min).

– Go to SNCF-connect to purchase tickets
– Select Departure from Paris CDG (Terminal 2) as indicated in the example below:

– Then specify that you are traveling via Lorraine TGV as shown below

– The final trip itinerary should be similar to the following:

Important: when you are in Airport CDG, you need to look for the Train Station inside the airport to take the TGV train to Lorraine TGV. Follow the sign “Gare” in Terminal 2.

When you arrive at the Train station inside the airport, you need to look for the TV panels showing the departing trains. Trains to Lorraine TGV are often on the line towards Strasbourg.

When you arrive at the Lorraine TGV train station, you need first to exit the station. Attention: the station is outside the city, so it’s normal if you think you are in the countryside or the middle of nowhere.

Now, you are outside the Lorraine TGV train station. You need to take the shuttle bus (navette, in French) to go to Nancy (city center). The trip takes about 30-35 minutes. If you didn’t purchase the ticket beforehand, usually, it is possible to pay onboard. There are two shuttle buses outside the train station: one goes to Metz, and the other one goes to Nancy. Ask when you take the bus if you are not sure.

Finally you arrive at the Nancy train station. The shuttle will leave you in the back of the train station (Entrance Saint Leon), the conference center is on the other side. Just cross the train station and look for the nice exit.

B) CDG to Paris Gare de l’Est (Paris Est), then TGV to Nancy

– To get to the train station Paris Est, you can either take the taxi or
the RER B (metro) from CDG Terminal 2 to Paris Gare du Nord (tickets can be purchased at the entrance of the metro)
– Then walk from Gare du Nord to Paris Est for 5 min (recommended)
or take the metro 5 for one stop.
– The final trip itinerary should be similar to the following:

Important: when you are in Airport Charles de Gaulle, if you want to take the RER to Paris Gare du Nord (RER B) look for the signs to go to the RER station inside Terminal 2.

The RER B will bring you to Gare du Nord. Stop there, exit Gare du Nord and walk to Gare de l’Est.

Inside Gare de l’Est, there are many trains. Usually those to Nancy are on the same line as those of Strasbourg, Saint Dié, and there are also direct trains to Nancy. Check the number of your TGV train to be sure. Try to be there 20 minutes before the train leaves, as Paris stations are always crowded.
